Hera

The Storm of Hera.
Acrylic on wood ~ 5.5 x 5.5 inches

In the ancient Greek myth of the tale of Io, Zeus falls for the beauty of Io and his wife, Hera, realises this. In an attempt to hide Io Zeus turns her into a white cow, and Hera demands this animal as a gift of his love, she has the hundred eyed Argus to guard the cow day and night until one night his is slain and Io is set free. Hera in her infinite fury summons a host of biting gadflies to chase and torment Io - as these flies drink the blood of cattle. Io is chased over the world and through time until she eventually gives birth. In my version Io succumbs to the torments and the summoned storm of Hera.
